Emergency Preparedness

Our stand as SOS is that When children are exposed to emergencies, be it because of armed conflict or natural disaster, we act:

  • To bring them as quickly as possible from the emergency situation into a caring family environment where their development as individuals is supported.

Our stand as SOS is that When children are exposed to emergencies, be it because of armed conflict or natural disaster, we act:

  • To bring them as quickly as possible from the emergency situation into a caring family environment where their development as individuals is supported.
  • To prevent family separation during all phases of an emergency.

We achieve this through our emergency preparedness and response program by:

  • First and foremost, ensuring that unaccompanied and separated children are safe, protected and cared for during the emergency.
  • Making every effort to reunify them with family members.
  • Identifying suitable alternative care placement in the best interests of the children when reunification is not possible.
  • Supporting families and communities with children who are at risk of losing parental care.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE

In the most recent year of 2022, we reached out to 5,417 people with our emergency services including refugees in Rwamwanja. Out of which 4, 315 where children (2008M, 2,307F), 902 caregivers (599F, 303M), and 200 youth (106M, 94F).

Our focus in the coming years is to be well networked with other emergency actors (Government, UN, NGOs, INNGOs including affected communities) to coordinate responses, and to be able to offer expertise on provision of short term care for children without parental care (including refugees).
